Indiana town working day and night for Michael Jackson museum

On Wednesday, Michael Jackson's Father and the mayor of his home town, Gary, Indiana, will e announcing "a major move forward". This move forward will bring a museaum and performance arts center to the city with Michael Jackson's name. The mayor, Rudy Clay, believes the museum will bring in an annual income of $100 million to $150 million and an extimated 500,000 to 750,000 visitors to Gary, Indiana. This will also create lots of construction jobs and more full time jobs to help out unemployment as well. The Jackson family loved in a house in Gary at 2300 Jackson Street from 1950 to 1966. Their house is still a shrine in the community and occasionally a tourist attraction.

I found this story interesting because I really like Michael Jackson and his music. I think this is a great way to remember his life and to help out a community finantially. I hope when this project is complete, there will be many people with new jobs and better living. I also hope to visit the Jackson Family Museum and the Michael Jackson Percforming Arts Center.

Senate panel, House approve 'don't ask, don't tell' compromise plan

On Friday the final vote in the House for the repeal of the "don't ask, don't tell" policy is expected to happen. Based on how the votes have come out so far, it is expected that the "don't ask, don't tell" policy will be repealed.

I think this is a good article because it is another step forward to complete equality for all no matter their sextuality. I think that if this passes it may make some people uncomfortable but in the long run i think it will be a good thing because change is good.

Death toll climbs to 3 from Guatemala volcano

On friday reports say the death toll from a Guatemalan volcano has risen to 3. Two of the people killed were villagers from a near by village and one was a news report from CNN. These victims were crushed by large rock thrown from the mouth of the volcano as it errupted. 4 people are still missing after the evacuation of near villages and some 1,800 people are located in shelters around the area. The volcano, Pacaya, has been dormant since 1965 and is at an elevation of 8,373 feet.

I thought this was a sad story. Its sad that there are people missing that that people have lost their family members. But I do find one thing interesting. The volcano had been dormant for so long, i wonder why it errupted?

Rescue continues in Peru after ferry capsizing

After a Ferry carrying more that 150 people capsizes in the Amaxon River, rescuers have started there search again on Thursday morning. The ferry was overloaded with too many people that it capsized. 12 people were found dead already and more are thought to be dead as well. No search for bodies will start until Friday.

I think this is an interestiong story. i don't understand why the people who were incharge of the ferry allowed too many people to get on the ferry. If they would have not exceeded the limit of people, the ferry probably wouldn't have capsized and all the people would still be alive today.

Hurricane season could be 'active or extremely active'

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administation, they predict that the next summer and fall seasons will be "active of extremely active" for hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean region. They think there will be 14 and 23 storms with high winds of more than 39 miles per hour, 3-7 of which will be major hurricanes within the next 6 months after June 1.

I find this to be an interesting article because it talks about the weather and how it is constantly changing and very unpredictable. I think that the rise in hurricanes is due to the change in the environment due to polution. I also think the increase in hurricanes will greatly effect our economy and the helpfulness of people around the world.

Distress of 9/11 may have led to miscarriages, research says

This article talks about misscarages after the 9/11 attacks. Researchers just released information that suggests that due to higher levels of stress and shock in September 2001, there were a higher amount of miscarages mainly of male fetuses. This reduced the number of boys born in september and the following months. A researcher found that since the male fetus hormones are more effected by stressors than female, that explains the drop in male birth in the few months following the 9/11 attacks.

I found this article interesting because it was just released 9 years after the 9/11 attacks. I also learned that male hormones are more effected by stressors that females. i found this very interesting.

Some Chicago mothers mark day with tears for slain children

Yesterday was Mother's Day and most moms were being thanked and celebrating with there children, but in Chicago, several moms were mourning the lose of their children due to street violence from the past year. These mothers went to their church where a new statue was placed to honor the children that had lost there lives too soon.

This is a sad story. I don't think any mother should have to go through that any day, especially on Mother's Day. I do think it is great that the church and community made the statue to honor the children.

Jobs and Welfare Blog Entry

Issue #1 talked about "All Things Being Unequal". This issue talked about the increase in difference between the lower class and the higher classes. The gap between the classes has increase dramatically since 1979. The percent of households in the upper class has increased from 45.4% to 53.5% and the percentage of income for lower classes has decreased form 5.8% to 4.1% since 1979. These percents show how much the gap between classes has grown dramatically. This issue also talks about if the wages should be created equal to lessen the gap between the classes. It said that if this is done it will create less motivation and that the difference in salaries and distace between classes is good for the economy. The increase betweeen classes is ppartial due to outsourcing. one way that this can be fixed is by Creating Wealth.

I think that it would be a good idea to make the wages for the classes more even. This would prevent people from being evicted and would make many things easier and mor affordable for everyone. Even though the difference between classes helps the economy, I think the government should take more care of all the citizens not just the high class ones.

Meet Sandra Bullock's baby boy!

It turns out that Sandra Bullock and Jesse James began an adoption process about 4 months ago. They were keeping the adoptiona secret until after the Oscars. The new baby is about 3 1/2 months old and his name is Louis Bardo Bullock. They kept this joyful news a secret with the help of Jesse's 3 children. After Bullock and James split due to his apparent cheating, Bullock is being a single mother of her new son, who she says "He's perfect, I can't even describe him in any other way."

I think this is a cool story because of the fact that they adopted a child. I think adoption is a great thing to do. Giving a child a good home is probably the best gift that could ever be given to a child.

Autopsy: SeaWorld trainer died from drowning, traumatic injuries

On february 24th a whale worker, named Dawn Brancheau, was working with a whale named Tilikum when the whale grabbed her by her ponytail and pulled her under the water. For a long while people thought that she died from the whale killing her but a recent autopsy showed something different. The autopsy showed that she died of drowning and taumatic body injuries on her spine, ribs and head. She ended up with fractures on her jawbone, ribs and to her cervical vertebra.

I found this to be a very sad story. This lady had been working with this whale for a long time. It is interesting how animal's behaviors can change so unexpectedly. I wonder what happened to the whale and why the whale decided to grab her and drag her under the water. That would make for an interesting research. To research how animals think and what they think about and why they do some of the things they do.

$250 million for abstinence education not evidence-based, groups say

The new health care plan not only talks about insurance coverage but also sex and abstinence and sex ed. This is a part of the plan where $50 million per year will be used for sex ed classes. Obama thinks that this will help prevent pregnancy in teens and prevent STD's. This $50 million per year will end up being $250 million dollars over a 5 year period which is the estimated length for this program to be running.

I think this is a good thing to put in the bill. It may or may not help with the spread of STD's and the teen pregnancys. I, personally think it is a good idea but really don't know how effective it will be. I think that no matter what the government does and no matter how many times teachers tell kids not to have sex, there are still going to be those teens and young adults who will have sex. There will always be people who will do things even when told not to and told all the consequences which is really sad.

Teens arrested after party causes $45,000 damage to house

An 18 year old boy was left with some neighboors while his parents went to France. He and the neighboors were left with keys to the house and orders to keep an eye on the place. The son was encouraged to have a party at his house by a juvenile and soon after more than 100 people were at the house. After the party everyone left the house with over $45,000 in damage. None of the damage was reported until 2 days later. A police officer from East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, said, "I've never seen anything like it in my career." There was blood, urine and food all over the floors and holes in the walls.

This is an interesting story because of all the crazy things that can happen at parties. I could not believe that no one reported the mess for 2 days and that over $45,000 worth of damage could have been accumulated during one party.

At Least 10 Killed in Kentucky Wreck

On Friday morning there was a deadly crash on Interstate 65 in Kentucky. At least 10 people were killed. Between 5:30 and 6 o'clock in the morning a tractor-trailer crossed the median and hit a massenger van head on. Most of the 10 people that died were in the van. The crash occured about 40 miles Northwest of the city of Bowling Green, near Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky.

i thought this story was interesting because of how many people were killed. you wouldn't generally think a 2 car crash would end with 10 or more people killed. This is a very tragic thing. I feel for the families of the people who died and hope that the crash was not caused becasue of unsafe driving or someone being under the influence of any type of chemical.

Health Care

I don't know what i think about the health care plan and i really don't know all that much about it. I have been told that it is not going to be a good thing for our generation but will be good for the older generations in our country. That is about all i know about the health care plan.

"Grandson finds Grandfather's killer after more than 40 years"

The Grandson of Clarence Pellet accidentally found his grandfather's killer when looking through and organizing old family pictures and memorabilia. The killer was Frank Dryman. Clem Pellet, Clarence's grandson, found Clarence's killer by complete accident. He was looking through his grandfather's old things and found a weird connection between him and Frank Dryman, a drifter. They brought there findings to investigators and arrested Dryman in Canada for the murder of Clarence Pellet.

I found this story to be very interesting because i like the crime and investigation shows. It kind of reminded me of Cold Case. I think it is good that the famiy can finally get official closer

"Bank Robbery Suspect calls Ahead with demand for cash"

On Tuesday March 23rd, a People's Bank in Fairfield Connecticut was robbed, but before the robbery occured the strangest thing happened. A man called the bank demanding $100,000 in large bills be ready for him when he arrived. The man who recieved the call, after hanging up, quickly called 911 and ordered a lock down of the bank. Before the lock down occured though, the callers accomplice was in the building. He got avout $900 and quickly went out the door. When he stepped out the door he was greeted by cops. He soon resorted to running towards his partners car. Both men were soon arrested and the money returned to the bank.

This is an interesting story because the robbers called before they were actually going to rob the bank. I don't think that is the most intellegent way to rob a bank, but that is just me.

Federal Budget Blog Entry: Issue #2

The background of the article was about National Debt also known as Governmental Debt. The Article also talked about the US Teasury and Earmarks. This talks about the priorities like the federal budget, of congress and the president. The article aslo describes the federal budget process and how the budgeting for the government works. The Deficit is also talked about. A deficit is when the government speands more money than they take in in a year. This is one of the major reasons there is a huge national debt of about $12 trillion. Another reasono for the huge debt is due to Social Security. The governent is having a hard time trying to figure out how to budget without getting rid of other things (pay-as-you-go) or raising taxes. There are aloth of problems with the way our countries budget it run.

I think that the pay-as-you-go plan could be very benificial to our economy because it would not allow an incease in the deficit or the national debt. Even though this plan does not lower the debt right away, i believe that it could potentially lower it because then people are more aware of their money and spendings so eventually we would lessen our national debt.

Deep South Braces For Big Snow

Last Friday, the people of the area from Texas to Georgia were preparing for a huge snow storm and blizzard. About 800 flights in and out of one Atlanta Airport were cancelled due to the approaching storm system. Another storm system was to hit the mississippi area with about 5 inches of snow. By friday morning parts of Texas had more that 12.5 inches of snow. Another interesting thing that happened due to these storms is that many towns don't even have road salt on hand because there is so little snow that does land in the southern region of the United States. These are just a few stories from the southern United States due to the rare snow fall in that area.

I thought this was an interesting story due to the fact that it hardly ever snows in those areas. I think it is weird that it is snowing there. It always makes me wonder what is going on in the atmosphere and what is making the changes. I think that the changes are due to people around the world are not taking care of the only eart we have. Pretty soon i think the north will be hot and the south will be cold. Everything will be backwards or opposite of what it has been for many many years and decades.

Micheal Jackson's doctor is turning himself in.

On friday Micheal Jackson's Physician, Conrad Murray, is going to turn himself in for the homicide of Jackson. Jackson was given sleeping aid drugs to help him sleep, given to him by Murray. These drugs were given to Jackson in the early morning of his death when he soon fell asleep. Murray was said to have left the room for " no more that 2 min" and when he returned Jackson was not breathing and quickly rushed to a near by hospital. After trying CPR Jackson was pronounced dead at about 230 on june 26th. Now Murray is finally going to turn himself in without too much publicity.

I thought this article was interesting because i hadn't really heard too much about micheal Jackson's death. I really enjoy his music and it is nice to know exactly what happened. It is also sad to here that Jackson's trusted Physician would try and succeed in killing him.

Car Crashes into a Casino

On wednesday at about 9:30, an elderly man from Nevada crashed his car into the Laughlin casino. The man was said to have had "a medical episode" that is suspected to have caused the crash. Two people died from this crash. The victims were sitting as a large bank of slot machines when hit by the car. Five people including the man driving werealso rushed to the hospital.

I think this is an interesting story just becasue of where it happened and how it occured. I think it is interesting that someone crashed their car into a casino. I also understand the circumstances like the medical episode which makes me feel sad for the elderly mad. This article could bring up some contrevercial topics like how old is too old to drive? This is one thing that could be brought up due to this article.
